ABOUT THE COMMON PLEAS COURT The Washington County Common Pleas Court tries domestic, large civil and felony criminal cases. The General Division of the Common Pleas Court is a Court of record. All courtroom proceedings are recorded. The Washington County Common Pleas Court has two Judges in the General Division. Courtroom A is presided over by Judge Susan E. Boyer, who is also the Administrative Judge for Washington County, and Courtroom B is presided over by Judge Ed Lane. Both courtrooms are located on the third floor of the main courthouse. Common Pleas Court, General Division's staff consists of: Bailiff Renee Marshall, Courtroom A; Bailiff Don Wilson, Courtroom B; Chris Painter, Secretary for Judge Ed Lane; Teresa Eddy, Administrative Secretary for Judge Susan Boyer; Angie Stevens, Assignment Commissioner/Court Administrator; and Julie Jobes, Assistant Assignment Commissioner. The Assignment Commissioners Office is also located on the third floor of the main courthouse. It is the Assignment Commissioner's responsibility to schedule cases for hearing. The Common Pleas Court selects the jury pool for all the Courts in Washington County - Marietta Municipal, Grand Jury and Common Pleas. The selection is done by computer. Initial exemption and excuses are determined by the County Jury Commissioners in December of each year for the following calendar year. Once a person is assigned to a specific Court for jury duty, all excuses and rescheduling are handled by the Court who has issued the summons to appear for jury duty.
