CLERK OF COURTS Voter Registration To qualify to register, or to vote, an individual must meet each of the following requirements: To vote, an individual must be registered to vote for at least 30 days before election day. Additionally, the registration or change must be received or postmarked 30 days prior to the election in which the individual intends to vote. The County Board of Elections provides notification of where to vote. Only an original form will be accepted by the Board of Elections. Do not use Box number as an address, specify state route or specific instructions. Include phone number when at all possible for verifying purposes. Original forms are available at the Clerk of Courts Auto Title office. For citizens who will be unable to go to their polling place on election day, they may request an absentee ballot from the Board of Elections and submit it by mail to the Board of Elections, 205 Putnam Street, Marietta, Ohio 45750. Notary Public Commission Individuals interested in becoming a Notary Public should stop in the Clerk of Courts office at 205 Putnam St, Washington County Courthouse, third floor and request necessary paper work and instructions. These functions may be performed by a notary anywhere in the State of Ohio. Notary publics hold their office for a term of 5 years, at which time their term may be renewed. Attorneys admitted to the practice of law in the State of Ohio hold their offices indefinitely as a notary public. Legal Services We have an experienced staff willing to lend a helping hand to look at old records and court documents. Most court records are recorded by microfilm and can be viewed on the microfiche. They are easily accessible with our reader/printer. Viewing is available from 7:00a.m. - 4:00 p.m. We do not do searches. Our prosecuting attorney has advised us that we could be held liable if something were missed or reported incorrectly. Please have an attorney or friend come to the office to do your searches if you are from out of town. We regret any inconvenience this may cause you. Please remember also "We are not attorneys".
