Prosecuting Attorney James E. Schneider has been in the Prosecutor's Office for seventeen years. He is the chief criminal Prosecutor, primarily responsible for reviewing and evaluating cases presented to the office by the various law enforcement agencies and scheduling them for grand jury, making sure that discovery is provided to defense attorneys, and coordinating the assignment of Prosecutors to try the cases. Alison Cauthorn has been an assistant Prosecutor for eleven years. She is the chief civil attorney in the Office as well as the primary appellate attorney. Ms. Cauthorn researches and writes legal opinions for county and township officials and represents the building and health departments in enforcement actions. She writes legal briefs and argues before the appellate courts in criminal appeals. Mark Kerenyi has been an assistant Prosecutor for two years and is the chief juvenile Prosecutor as well as being a criminal trial attorney. He represents the State in juvenile prosecutions for juvenile traffic offenses and in delinquency and unruly hearings. Mr. Kerenyi served in the United States Marines and participated in the Gulf War. Tammy Stephens has been a secretary in the Prosecutor's Office since 1981. Her primary responsibility is with criminal cases. She obtains files from the law enforcement agencies, creates files, prepares indictments, discovery, and other documents related to criminal cases, and prepares documents for cases in juvenile court. Kelly Sheets is a secretary who has worked in the Prosecutor's Office for eleven years. Ms. Sheets keeps track of the calendar, making sure that each attorney is aware of his or her schedule. She maintains the appellate docket, making sure that appeal briefs are filed on time. She also handles the victim-witness responsibilities for the Office.
