Samuel R. Cook ![]() Samuel R. Cook was born and raised on a northern Indiana farm, attended Purdue University, is a veteran of World War II, and graduated from St. Joseph's College, Rensselaer, Indiana in 1949. He is retired Chairman of the Board and CEO of Broughton Foods Company, Marietta, Ohio and is currently a Trustee of the Broughton Foundation and several other community organizations. He is Past Director of numerous dairy associations, Past President of several civic Organizations such as Marietta Chamber of Commerce and Marietta Rotary, and is a Lay Leader of Christ United Methodist Church. He also has worked on numerous fund raising campaigns including Marietta College, Marietta Memorial Hospital, and the YMCA. In 1980, he was named "Citizen of the Year" by Marietta Jaycees, "Rotarian of the Year" in both 1982 and 1993, and "Outstanding Citizen of the Year" by Marietta Mayor Nancy Hollister in 1986, in addition to other honorary awards. He is one of the organizers of Safetytown, which is now named in his honor. He was appointed Washington County Commissioner and elected to a four year term in 1998. He makes his home in Marietta with his wife, Cheryl Carver, principal of Harmar Elementary School, whom he married in 1998.
