John Grimes ![]() Born and raised in Northern Ohio, John Grimes has been an active member of Washington County since 1971. After graduating in 1969 from The Ohio State University with a B.S. in Agriculture, he taught Horticulture for 2 years at the Pioneer Joint Vocational School in Shelby, Ohio. Mr. Grimes joined Russell Devol in his greenhouse operation in 1971. He and his wife, Pam, purchased the business from Mr. Devol in 1980 and operate it as John Grimes' Devol Greenhouse. Two sons, Matthew and Stuart, live in Naples, Florida.Mr. Grimes is active in both the community and his church. He has been a member of the Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad since 1977 and is an Advanced EMT and Assistant Fire Chief in charge of Rescue Squad Activities. Mr. Grimes is chairman of the Administrative Board and teaches an adult Sunday School class at the Gilman United Methodist Church. He also serves on the Horticulture Advisory Board for the Washington County Career Center. Mr. Grimes' memberships include the Marietta Area Chamber of Commerce, the Muskingum Valley Chamber of Commerce, and the Belpre Area Chamber of Commerce. He is a past president of the Marietta Civitan Club and has helped raise money for numerous non-profit organizations in Washington County. He has also worked with the Ohio State University Extension Service on several occasions in Washington County and has been active in the Ohio Florists' Association. Mr. Grimes' commitment is "To serve the people of Washington County in a meaningful way.
