Notary Public Commission
The Clerk of Courts in its legal division administers the oath of office to Notary Publics. Individuals interested in becoming a Notary Public should stop in the Clerk of Courts office at 205 Putnam St, Washington County Courthouse, third floor and request necessary paper work and instructions.

In the State of Ohio, a notary public is a person appointed and commissioned by the Governor of the state to:
  • Administer oaths required or authorized by law
  • Take and certify depositions
  • Receive and certify acknowledgments of deeds, mortgages, liens, powers of attorney, and other written instruments
  • Receive, make, and record notarial protests

These functions may be performed by a notary anywhere in the State of Ohio. Notary publics hold their office for a term of five years, at which time their term may be renewed. Attorneys admitted to the practice of law in the State of Ohio hold their offices indefinitely as a notary public.

Legal Services
We have an experienced staff willing to lend a helping hand to look at old records and court documents. Most court records are recorded by microfilm and can be viewed on the microfiche. They are easily accessible with our reader/printer. Viewing is available from 8:00 am to 4:15 pm
