Healthy Schools

"A child must be healthy to learn... and must learn to be healthy."  The gold standard for this task is the Coordinated School Health Model.  this Model incorporates and coordinated approach to problem-solving and decision-making processes needed to develop a healthy learning environment.

School Wellness Policies

the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorizations Act of 2004 mandates that all local schools receiving federal funding must establish local school wellness policies that include guidelines for all foods available on school campuses during the school day and goals for nutrition education, physical activity, and other school-based activities designed to promote student wellness.  How is your school doing?  Be an advocate for children's health by asking to review your local school's policy and by asking how you can help put the policies into action!

School Health Index

Does your school create a healthy learning environment?  Want to find out?  Schools can assess the health of their environments by utilizing the School Health Index (SHI).  The SHI is a model self-assessment and planning tool to improve health policies and programs within schools.

Buckeye Best School Awards

The Buckeye Best School Awards recognize schools that demonstrate a commitment to the health and wellness of their students and staff through the establishment of programs and policies that foster such goals.  Apply for the award so that it can be recognized locally and across the state!
