CHILDREN SERVICES Teen Pregnancy Prevention Services for Children grades 6-8 The Responsible Social Values Program (RSVP) is offered to all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade classrooms in the area school districts. This is a curriculum written by April I. Thomas for RSVP and has been approved by the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Adolescent Pregnancy Programs. RSVP is presented in classrooms by the Prevention Specialists who are trained by Abstinence the Better Choice. This classroom program is designed to encourage family communication about sex, drugs, and study habits. Parents are encouraged to discuss family values with their children while the program is being presented in their child's classroom. Homework assignments are given for parents and students to complete together. Examples of some of these joint activities are: writing a news story on "The Discovery of Love", being asked to create a "dating license" and developing a "parenting license". The purpose of these exercises is to provide an opening for communication about love, sexuality, health, and family responsibilities. Classroom activities are very interactive, using age appropriate information for each grade level. Each year the program builds on the knowledge and skills developed the previous year. The 8th grade students also participate in the Baby Think It Over program, where infant simulators are cared for over a weekend. "Abstinence Is Freedom" is a theme that is incorporated throughout the program. The goals and objectives of the program include:
