Harmar Elementary
Project More - a nationally recognized program that improves grade level performance in at-risk elementary school students. Mentors meet with children for 30 minutes in a very scripted, organized tutoring session that includes reading to the child, listening to the child read back what was read, questions about the reading and a game. The training is very thorough and a teacher supports the volunteer throughout the program. A 9-month, 30 minute, 1-time/week commitment is required. Training will be in September to begin in October.
Reassurance Callers
Serve from your own home calling homebound seniors to check in with them. Spend a few minutes listening, making sure that they are feeling well and that everything in their home is in order.
Franciscan Meals
Deliver hot lunch to shut-ins. Drivers use their own vehicle to pick up meals at the hospital and make deliveries on a set route. This is a great volunteer opportunity for married couples and friends to do together. No mileage reimbursement is available. Training is provided.
