Founder Ronald L. Smith, is a 13-1/2 year Marine Corps veteran with tours in the Persian Gulf and Desert Storm, and Co-founder Patricia A. Sexton, the wife of U.S. Army Sgt. David M. Sexton, who was killed in Vietnam on March 15, 1971 and whose remains have yet to come home to his son and wife.
Patricia and Ronald met at Rolling Thunder as members of the Ohio chapter, which had just started a POW/MIA Ohio traveling wall that listed the names of the men from Ohio still listed as such. They volunteered their time for over 12 years traveling with that wall throughout the summer. During those years they talked to thousands of people and the one question that was always asked, Why is this only about Vietnam. Why don’t you mention the other wars from our past to present? With those questions in mind the idea was born to create a full colored mural wall depicting the years 1775 to present day.
